I Keep Letting You Back In, How Can I Explain Myself?
Have you ever in your life heard an album as good as Lauryn Hill’s The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill?
I like to listen to three songs on repeat:
Ex-Factor
Nothing Even Matters
Doo-Wop
I particularly admire how Hill uses narrative in her lyrics. This album is absolutely everything. There is so much feeling, so much singing from deep in the gut on every track. I don’t want to be all, “When I was young,” but albums used to mean something. The only album that has excited me as much as Hill’s album in recent memory is Frank Ocean’s Channel Orange which also is smart and gutsy and illuminating (and so damn sexy).
First though, let’s take another moment to appreciate Lauryn Hill, a woman so talented she only needed one amazing album to establish her legacy.
Respect it.
